Thus far there have been 7 movies released based on the Star Wars storyline. LucasFilms has done a tremendous job marketing these films and creating products based on these movies. One of the more popular products for the Star Wars movies is LEGO sets. The LEGO Group signed on with LucasFilms in 1999 to recreate scenes from each movie and the response from fans has proven to be very positive.
Episode I: The Phantom Menace is the first prequel released. It was released in 1999 and earlier that year The LEGO Group had already begun releasing LEGO sets for the first Star Wars movie. The Phantom Menace Star Wars LEGO Sets include some very popular and rare Star Wars LEGO mini figures like Darth Maul, a young Anakin Skywalker and Jar Jar Binks.
Episode II: Attack of the Clones is the second prequel released. It was released in 2002. The Episode II LEGO sets include what could be argued as the most popular of Star Wars LEGO Sets. The LEGO Group has released a few versions of the Slave I but this may be the most popular. It includes Jango Fett, Boba Fett's "father."
The Revenge of the Sith was the third movie released after the original movies. Episode III was released in 2005. The Revenge of the Sith series of LEGO sets includes one of the more imaginative LEGO sets in the Darth Vader Transformation. This set includes an Anakin Walker mini figure and a Darth Vader mini figure and depicts Anakin's transformation to Darth Vader.
A New Hope is actually the first film released by LucasFilms in it's now legendary Star Wars series. Now called Episode IV, a New Hope was released in 1977. More than twenty years later, LucasFilms and the LEGO Group teamed up to recreate the Star Wars series in LEGO sets. These LEGO systems are now the LEGO Group's best selling building block toys.
First released in 1980, The Empire Strikes Back is the second film released by LucasFilms. The Empire Strikes Back LEGO systems include the Millennium Falcon 4504 which includes an array of highly collectible Star Wars LEGO Mini figures like C-3PO, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia. The system also features the highly prized Slave I 7144.
Return of the Jedi is the last of the original Star Wars films. The LEGO Systems designed around the Return of the Jedi include the Home One Mon Calimari Starcruiser, Ewok Attack 7139 and the very popular Jabba's Sail Barge 6210. The Sail Barge has quite a few popular Star Wars Mini figures including Luke Skywalker and a Boba Fett!
The newest film released thus far for the Star Wars series is the Clone Wars. Released in 2008, this film is based in a very popular animated series. The LEGO Group certainly outdid themselves with the LEGO sets based on this film. They are very true to the movie as are the Star Wars LEGO Mini figures that are included. These minifigs have a very distinct animated look about them and have proven to be very popular among Star Wars LEGO Collectors.
